Harris was California’s attorney general when she declined to defend Proposition 8.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was discussed as a long-shot possibility for vice-president.
Kamala Harris selected Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to be her running mate.
Governor Walz has been a steadfast ally and advocate for the queer community.
Walz signed a ban on conversion therapy into law.
Supported trans affirming care, bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom.
He made a House floor speech supporting the repeal of "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell".
He helped the passage of the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act.
He also signed legislation that stops libraries in the state from removing books.
Walz was a high school teacher and coach.
When Republicans in Minnesota introduced a bill that would ban transgender athletes from playing sports, Walz said that he would veto it.
Walz consistently attended Pride.
While a teacher at Mankato West High School in the 1990s Walz was adviser to the school's first gay-straight alliance.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly will chair the Democratic Governors Association to complete the term of Walz.
Donald Trump specifically listed Walz's support for queer people as a reason to oppose him, despite appointing Walz to the Council of Governors.
If Pete Buttigieg were heterosexual, he would be Tim Walz.
